i will not give permission for male urine to fertilize my food unless i get better evidence for ANY benefit other than this BS talk. all newcomers-- just know you have roughly a year before they lobotomize you by changing your gender. this will be done through the only available food you are given to eat. for those that wish to live in a male only world, just know that most beings are treated as so-called machines. you will be a tool that must work everyday without pay or free will. you will be their property with zero holidays. no contracts and NO rights. all the food limits your intelligence and you will have trouble doing simple math. eventually the only thing you will be suitable for is physical labor. does that sound like fun science done by a God that loves you?

I wonder what, after being used to react to the modern ecological mutation in a helpful way, this new psychology would be used for. Part of why mainstream psychology has become hegemonic is because it is useful not only for relieving psychic malaise on an individual level, but also for effectivization of all things related to bureaucracy, population control and the accumulation of capital. The truth value or moral superiority of a field of study is not directly related to its prominence. It’s no coincidence that economics is called the king (or queen) of the social sciences even when everybody knows-even economists!-that its basic assumptions about humans are simply false; Economics as a field is extremely useful for the mainainance and development of the current social order. So is mainstream psychology. But I don’t think the same can be said of radical ecopsychology. Not that I don’t believe in the value of basic science/social theory or that this other kind of psychology could be better in many areas-such as for «saving» the ecology-but I fear that it might not catch on unless it becomes a necessary tool for a new type of social order. I both fear and hope that changing psychology can only be done if everything else changes with it. I also fear and hope that changing psychology is necessary, or at least helpful, for everything else to change. Good thing, then, that we are in need of drastic change.

These are very sensible ideas. My understanding regarding safety of human waste for growing food is that it works very well but that it was the reason (and still is in many places) that vegetables are cooked before eating. Raw vegetable salads are best grown without feces except in situations where you can be absolutely confident that the composting process has been done to perfection as it were.

It’s interesting to hear this and the different definitions of spirit and soul. Uneducated me, I had always thought the opposite, of spirit as a sort of outward force that issues from our inner nature to exert its effect on the world and can have effects that are good or bad or neither (such as “malicious spirits” wreaking havoc) and soul as something more passive. And I’ve also tried to go towards both extremes (in the sense as taught) and suffered either way because the natural reality of human life-perhaps a happier, but inherently delicate, way of being-and life is delicate!-seems to be a balance between them.

I had a dog.....just a rescued mutt.....who knew days in advance that I was going away. I did everything in my power - only getting things ready when my partner had taken her for a walk, making sure nothing whatever was different etc, it made no difference. She knew. She'd sit on the doormat for days and as soon as I opened the door she'd sit by the car. She also knew when I was coming home. Very smart dog.

Right around 32:10 George said "You can not extrapolate from one small farm and look at the global food system through that lens". In my view it is the very large scale operations that pose the problem. But I guess I'm biased because I would like to have my own small subsistence farm and feel that it could be balanced with nature.

Not talking about balance at that point...rather that shareholder style farming simply will not feed us all now, let alone in the future as population rises.

My weird take on Cogito ergo sum is a rather garbled something. There is this (i.e, thought, feeling), therefore God. Or phrased another way, “I think/feel, therefore God.” God, a verb that takes no subject or object. There are certain words which words cannot define-they burst through the deepest shadows of the mind. The most important and difficult thing to learn when learning to meditate is that we don’t exist. Thoughts don’t have a thinker. So again, there is thought without self. Everyone starts thinking, “Well…how can I meditate better?” And they try everything in the world and that doesn’t work. Then there is a moment of enlightenment, and one realizes Emptiness, Thusness: “There is nothing in this world that in any way is a self or pertains to a self. All is characterised as-thus.” And through the heart, a reality beyond the senses, beyond self-referentiality (prapañca) and beyond the thinking mind is understood, a Truth. This is the germination of wisdom. I so wish that I were able to get to know this person before he died. As is said of obstacles, though…

I met Brian when I invited him to lecture at Sussex in 1994. Just as I was in my third year working under the tuition of John Maynard Smith. John was good friends with Brian. The two intellectual giants had a profound respect for each other. Brian frankly blew my mind, and changed my whole perception of biology. I finally knew what it was about Dawkins’ reductionism that I felt deep misgivings about. His simple conjecture that there are levels of explanation, and that we must seek satisfactory ones, instead of just sticking to a single paradigm dogmatically, changed how I think, to this day. He was a wonderful mind, and a great scientist and thinker. Rest in peace dear friend.
